Assigning a Hot Spare

Important: You can only assign     as hot spare physical disks.

Use this option to assign a selected unassigned physical disk as a hot spare physical disk. A hot spare physical disk contains no data and acts as a standby in case any physical disk fails in a RAID level 1, 3, or 5  on the . The hot spare physical disk adds another level of  to the storage array.

To assign a hot spare physical disk, peform the following steps:

Select one or more physical disks from the Physical View from the available unassigned physical disks.

Select Physical Disk >> Hot Spare >> Assign.

The physical disk changes from unassigned to standby hot spare. The physical disk's capacity is subtracted from the Unconfigured Capacity node in the Logical View.

Unassigning a Hot Spare

Important:

Use this option to return a selected hot spare physical disk or physical disks to an unassigned state.

To unassign a hot spare physical disk, perform the following steps:

Select one or more standby hot spare physical disks from the Physical View of the .

Select Physical Disk >> Hot Spare >> Unassign .

The physical disk changes from standby hot spare to unassigned. The physical disk's capacity is added to the Unconfigured Capacity node in the Logical View.
