storage area network (SAN)
A high-speed network that enables the interconnection of heterogeneous systems and storage elements through peripheral ports,
such as Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) port and Fibre Channel. A SAN consists of a communication infrastructure, which
provides physical connections. A SAN also consists of a management layer, which organizes the connections, storage elements,
and computer systems so that data transfer is secure and robust.
