You can correct conditions for and .

Correcting a Partially Managed Condition for an Out-of-Band Storage Array

The following procedure is only for storage arrays. For in-band storage arrays, see Correcting a Partially Managed Condition for an In-Band Storage Array.

Note: If you already have the Partially Managed Storage Arrays dialog displayed, you can skip step 1.

To correct a partially managed condition for an out-of-band storage array, perform the following steps:

1

Select View >> Partially Managed Storage Arrays.

2

Make a note of the RAID controller modules listed (both known and unknown). Use this information to identify the unknown RAID controller module.

Note: The display shows RAID controller module pairs with the known RAID controller module listed first followed by the unknown RAID controller module. The display shows the known RAID controller module's name or IP address, its associated storage array, and a description of the known RAID controller module's location (RAID controller module in slot A or slot B).

3

Click Add More.

4

On the Add Storage Array dialog, specify the name or IP address of the RAID controller module that was listed in the Partially Managed Storage Arrays dialog with an Unknown designation, and then click Add.

If

Then

The Add Storage Array dialog is displayed again and the message "Added successfully" appears

You have resolved the partially managed condition for the particular RAID controller module. Go to step 6.

A Connection Problem dialog is displayed as follows:

"The specified storage array was not accessible. Do you want to add it as an Unidentified Storage Array?"

Click No.

There is either a problem with the physical connection or a faulty RAID controller module. Go to step 5.

5

Ensure the following conditions are met:

  • The Ethernet cable into the RAID controller module is not visibly damaged and is securely connected.
  • The appropriate network configuration tasks have been performed (for example, IP address assigned to the RAID controller module, and so on). Refer to the storage management software installation guide for your operating system for details.
  • The RAID controller module is network accessible. One way to do this is to use the ping command to verify that the RAID controller module can be reached. Use the ping <Host_name_or_IP_address_of_the_RAID controller module>.

If

Then

A cable or network accessibility problem occured

Fix the problem and then repeat step 4.

A cable or network accessibility problem did not occur

Turn the power to the RAID controller module enclosure off, turn on the power to the RAID controller module enclosure, and then repeat step 4. If you continue to receive the Connection Problem dialog, you might have a faulty RAID controller module. Contact your Customer and Technical Support Representative.

6

Repeat step 4 for each RAID controller module that is associated with a directly that was listed with an Unknown designation, and then go to step 7.

7

When you have added all names or IP addresses, select Close from the Add Storage Array dialog.

If

Then

The Partially Managed Storage Arrays dialog is displayed again.

Either you have not resolved all of the directly managed storage arrays or the remaining RAID controller modules listed are associated with in-band storage arrays. For more information, see How to Correct a Partially Managed Condition for an In-Band Storage Array.

The Partially Managed Storage Arrays dialog does not display again.

You have resolved all partially managed situations.

Correcting a Partially Managed Condition for an In-Band Storage Array

Note: If you already have the Partially Managed Storage Arrays dialog displayed, you can skip step 1.

To correct a partially managed condition for an in-band storage array, perform the following steps:

1

Select the View >> Partially Managed Storage Arrays.

2

Make a note of the RAID controller modules listed (both known and unknown). Use this information to identify the unknown RAID controller module.

Note: The display shows RAID controller module pairs with the known RAID controller module listed first followed by the unknown RAID controller module. The display shows the name or IP address of the host, the associated storage array, and a description of the known RAID controller module's location (slot A or slot B).

3

On the Partially Managed Storage Arrays dialog, click Exit.

4

The host-agent software could not detect the RAID controller module due to one of the following reasons:

  • There is a connection problem.

or

  • The RAID controller module was installed or replaced since the last time the host-agent software was started.

Verify the connections, and rescan the RAID controller module using the following procedure:

a

Check the external cable between the host bus adapter and the RAID controller module to make sure that it is securely connected.

b

Restart the host-agent software on the host through which you are having problems detecting the RAID controller module. Refer to the storage management software installation guide for your operating system for instructions on how to restart the host-agent software.

c

Highlight the host in the Tree view of the and then select Tools >> Rescan to attempt to detect the RAID controller module in the storage array.

d

Determine if the problem has been corrected by selecting View >> Partially Managed Storage Arrays.

If

Then

  • The menu option is grayed out (unavailable)

or

  • The RAID controller module associated with this in-band storage array is no longer listed.

You are finished with this procedure.

The RAID controller module and associated storage array are still listed.

Try the following procedures, one at a time:

  • Use the hot_add utility to register the so the host-agent can communicate with both RAID controller modules, and then repeat step 4. (To use the utility, type hot_add at the command line.)
  • Turn the power to the RAID controller module enclosure off, turn the power on, and then repeat step 4. If the RAID controller module continues to be listed in the Partially Managed Storage Arrays dialog, you may have a faulty RAID controller module. Contact your Customer and Technical Support representative.

5

Repeat step 4 for each RAID controller module associated with an in-band storage array that was listed with an Unknown designation.
